Welcome to the West Deeping Heritage Group Web-site.

We started meeting in November 2010, and after several well-attended sessions, the group was set up with a small committee, a formal constitution and a bank account.

Its purpose is

“To encourage a sense of community and an interest in our heritage, to hand on to future generations

  •  by providing opportunities to explore, record and interpret the history, architecture, society, landscape and wildlife of West Deeping and its surrounding area
  • by sharing interests and skills in a wide range of heritage-related activities such as archaeology, family history, creative and traditional crafts, and conservation”

We meet in West Deeping Village Hall normally once a month between September and March, with an Annual General Meeting in March or April.

Go to Programme for details and dates of talks. These are also advertised on West Deeping Parish website, in the Parish newsletter, Towers and Spires and via many local community organisations. Individuals on the contact list receive email notifications.

If you ‘Follow’ this website, you will receive an email notification whenever there is a new post in Latest News.

I am trying to find any information about Maxey House as my grandmother was in service there between about 1918-1926. I would like to know if was a personal dwelling at this time and who owned it etc. Hoping you can help. Many thanks

Maxey House is actually in Market Deeping, the next village to ours but I do have a couple of leads, as one of the World War 1 soldiers born in West Deeping, who I have been researching, worked there. He was employed by Edward Sutton, JP. in 1911. I also have a reference to the Deeping Volunteer Training Corps being entertained by Mr and Mrs Sutton at Maxey House in 1915. I have found some newspaper references to Edward Sutton’s death in 1925 which give a bit more background information. M Ashcroft
